Pune Warriors batsman Steven Smith credited skipper Sourav Ganguly's 'gutsy' performance for the team's 20-run win over the fancied Delhi Daredevils in an IPL match here.

Ganguly led from the front, scoring 41 runs with the bat before scalping two crucial wickets in the form of dangerman Kevin Pietersen and Irfan Pathan to guide Pune to the win over a star-studded Delhi Daredevils at the Feroze Shah Kotla ground on Saturday.

Put into bat, the former India captain and Jesse Ryder (86) stitched vital 93 runs for the second wicket to set the foundation for Pune's 192 for three.

Galle: Skipper Mahela Jayawardene crafted a classy century to steer Sri Lanka out of trouble on the opening day of the first Test against England in Galle on Monday.

Jayawardene hit an unbeaten 168 as the hosts recovered from a disastrous 15-3 by the fourth over to move to 289-8 by stumps at a Galle International Stadium packed with some 8,000 English supporters.

Sri Lanka were 15-3 after three wickets fell in 10 balls, Kumar Sangakkara out first ball to James Anderson (3-56). Mahela Jayawardene survived four chances, two badly spilled late on by Monty Panesar, but revived his side with 20 fours and three sixes in his 30th Test hundred.
